Micropobe analysis of antique glasses from Sagalassos, Turkey

Together with Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Centre for Archaeological Sciences, Prof. Patrick Degryse) examinations concerning the provenience analysis of ancient glass are performed. The first phase of the project is scheduled for a 5 years period, the program will also comprise exchange of experts and students at regular intervals.

Backscattered image of an antique glass sample from Sagalassos. The image shows flow texture of the glass. The darker layers contain lower amounts of iron, the brighter ones higher amounts.
The white, within the glass formed crystals are calcium-silicates, probably wollastonite.
